HIV & Aids

Globally, we have seen progress in the prevention of HIV transmission and in improving the lives of people living with HIV. Of the approximately 36.7 million people living with HIV at the end of 2015, 17 million people are currently on antiretroviral therapy. That is almost a third more than just two years ago. Seven out of 10 pregnant women living with HIV received antiretroviral treatment, preventing mother-to-child transmission of the virus (Global AIDS report, 2016). Despite these achievements, huge challenges remain with increasing rates of new infections.
