Treatment of 40.000 malnourished children in the past year

Blog

Dubai, 11 May 2021 - Worldwide, 45 million children under the age of five are estimated to be too thin for their height. According to WHO data, around 45% of deaths among children under the age of five years are linked to undernutrition. These deaths mostly occur in low- and middle-income countries, where women, infants and children are at the highest risk of malnutrition. When nutrition is optimised early in life, including the 1000 days from conception to a child’s second birthday, this ensures the best possible start in life, with many long-term benefits related to increased cognitive abilities and a healthy immune system.

Over the past year, IDA Foundation has shipped a large number of PED/SAM (pediatric severe acute malnutrition) kits to multiple countries in Africa and to Yemen.  The PED/SAM kit consists of seven different modules each containing either essential medicines, renewables and other medical equipment suitable for the treatment of children who are suffering from severe acute malnutrition and associated medical complications. With these much-needed kits we have helped our customers treat around 40.000 children in the last year. We keep stock of all the PED/SAM modules in our Dubai warehouse, and we are happy to serve customers all over the world.
