IDA joins UN Global Compact

Blog

Launched in July 2000, the UN Global Compact was initiated by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in 1999. In the UN Global Compact, businesses combine forces with the United Nations to create a world that is more sustainable and socially equitable.

Participating organisations commit themselves to applying the ten universal principles, as set out by the United Nations, in the fields of human rights, labour, the environment, and fighting corruption. Today, more than 12,000 organisations from over 140 countries are affiliated with the UN Global Compact. These include small, medium and large businesses, business associations, labour organizations, civil society organizations, and academic institutions, as well as cities. By following the ten principles and reporting on their progress on an annual basis, all are making a commitment to a better world.

“We see IDA Foundation joining the UN Global Compact very much in line with our mission and values as an organisation", says Wendy Eggen, Managing Director of IDA Foundation. "While we already have a strict code of conduct, this affiliation is also an opportunity to further incorporate meaningful developments in the areas of human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption practices into our day-to-day operations."
