Emergency Health Kit
The Interagency Emergency Health Kit (IEHK 2006) has been designed to meet the initial primary healthcare needs of a displaced population without medical facilities. It contains sufficient medical supplies to support at least 10.000 people for approximately 3 months in crisis situations such as floods, droughts, earthquakes or armed conflict.
The IEHK 2006 edition takes into account the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, the increasing parasite resistance to commonly available antimalarials and the field experience of organisations using the emergency health kit. A new basic malaria module and a supplementary PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) module have been added to its contents. At the same time, quite some medicines and medical supplies have been replaced by contemporary and more efficient alternatives; some new products have been added as well.
The IEHK contains about 170 different products to be used in the early stage of emergency. You can consult the IEHK fact sheet for details on the composition, contents and dimensions of the kit.
