Essential medicines and medical supplies
Essential medicines
IDA Foundation has contributed to and supported the WHO Essential Medicines concept since its introduction in 1977. According to the World Health Organization, essential medicines are those that satisfy the priority healthcare needs of the population.
These medicines are selected based on their public health relevance, evidence on efficacy and safety, and comparative cost-effectiveness.
The implementation of the concept of essential medicines is however flexible; exactly which medicines are regarded as essential remains a national responsibility. Therefore IDA Foundation carefully follows not only the latest WHO recommendations, but also the market demands, and aligns its product range accordingly.
