IDA Foundation Launches Oncology Products at AORTIC International Cancer Conference
Several representatives from IDA are in Morocco for the International Cancer Conference, where IDA is launching a range of quality-assured generic oncology products. This biennial event, organized by the African Organisation for Research and Training in Cancer (AORTIC), aims to bring together leading African and international health care professionals in cancer care. Together with advocates, leaders in government, and members of the global cancer community, they meet to discuss cancer-related matters. The theme of the 2015 conference is "Roadmap to Cancer Control in Africa" and focuses on solutions to significantly reduce the impact of cancer in Africa.
Cancer has reached epidemic proportions worldwide. Today, it kills more people than HIV/AIDS, TB and Malaria combined. Despite the urgency of the cancer crisis, the international community has been slow to respond until recently. The newly established Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have set clear targets for fighting Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) and IDA is committed to help achieve these ambitious milestones.
While prevention and early detection are critical, we believe that affordable, quality assured treatment options can save many lives. IDA Foundation is working to make cancer medication more affordable and accessible in low- and middle-income countries as part of our range of NCD medicines. We plan to keep stock of high priority products for treatment of the most common forms of cancer. We believe this approach will bring treatment within reach for many more patients.
